Primary Purpose:

The Armed School Security Officer will be responsible for maintaining a safe and secure environment for students, staff, and visitors at the school. The officer will be armed and trained to respond to any potential threats or emergencies that may arise on school grounds

Qualifications:

Requirements:

High School Diploma

Valid TCOLE Peace Officer License

Valid Texas Driver License

Reputable work history

Must be physically fit and able to stand for long periods

Must pass a criminal background check and drug screening

 

Special Knowledge/Skills:

Ability to clearly and accurately record information

Ability to follow verbal and written instructions

Ability to work effectively with youths and adults

Ability to communicate effectively (verbally)

Ability to receive and give verbal instructions clearly and effectively

Ability to concentrate on a task and remain alert during long periods of routine activity

Ability to perform multiple tasks simultaneously, make quick decisions, and apply established general parameters to specific situations

 

Experience:

Experience in law enforcement preferred

Major Responsibilities and Duties:

  1. Patrol school grounds and monitor for any suspicious activity
  2. Respond to any potential threats or emergencies, including active shooter situations
  3. Provide emergency services when the need arises
  4. Collaborate with school administrators and local law enforcement to develop and implement safety plans
  5. Conduct security checks of school buildings and facilities
  6. Monitor security cameras and alarms
  7. Provide a visible presence on school grounds to deter potential threats
  8. Interact with students, staff, and visitors in a professional and courteous manner
  9. Compile, maintain, and file all reports, records, and other documents as required.
  10. Follow district safety protocols and emergency procedures.
  11. Establish and maintain a professional relationship and open communication with the superintendent, principals, teachers, staff, parents, and community members.
  12. Demonstrate awareness of district-community needs and initiate activities to meet those needs.
  13. Other duties as assigned

Mental Demands/Physical Demands/Environmental Factors:

Tools/Equipment Used: Must have own weapon and duty rig; Standard office equipment including personal computer and peripherals

Posture: Prolonged sitting and standing; occasional bending/stooping, pushing/pulling, and twisting

Motion: Repetitive hand motions, frequent keyboarding and use of mouse; occasional reaching

Lifting: Occasional light lifting and carrying (less than 15 pounds)

Environment: Outdoor and indoor environments

Mental Demands: Work with frequent interruptions; maintain emotional control under stress; must have the ability to make quick decisions in high-stress situations

*To meet the executive exemption test, the primary duty must be management and the employee must supervise at least two full-time employees.
