Primary Purpose:

 

The Student Success Advisor is embedded in school districts to proactively help high school students through each step of career exploration and postsecondary attainment. Performance will be evaluated by monthly tracking of key metrics related to student and program performance. Partnering with high school counselors, this position works with students in developing and expanding their individualized postsecondary plan(PGP), supporting students to enroll in college (college fit discussion, applications, and orientation), to earn a workplace credential, to enlist in the armed services, to complete the FAFSA, and more.

 

Qualifications:

 

Education/Certification:

Bachelor's degree from an accredited institution of higher learning Texas Educator certification(preferred, but not required)

 

Special Knowledge/Skills:

Knowledge of career development

Excellent organizational, communication, and interpersonal skills

Ability to instruct students and manage their behavior

Ability to present information in one-on-one, small group, and large group situations to students, parents, and district staff

 

Experience:

Two years teaching experience (High School preferred)

 

Major Responsibilities and Duties:

 

Guidance

  1. Build relationships with all high school students through regular meetings to help them with decisions related to postsecondary planning.
  2. Guide individual students to identify a course of study that promotes college and workforce readiness, career placement and advancement, and helps the student make the transition from secondary to post-secondary education and training.
  3. Meet one-on-one with each high school senior, multiple times per semester to help each student develop and succeed in their postsecondary plans.
  4. Review personal graduation plan (PGP) options with individual students and their parent or guardian and monitor progress toward attainment of goals. Help the student to access and make use of proven educational resources, innovative methods, and other interventions that will accelerate the learning process.
  5. Guide individual students to plan, monitor, and manage the student's own educational and career development including providing information about post-secondary opportunities.
  6. Connect high school students to needed internal and external resources to aid their success and goal attainment.
  7. Ensure that all seniors progress through each stage of the financial aid process, from FAFSA completion through verification.
  8. Understand and navigate high school students through each step of the college application process, including housing applications, scholarship applications, and completing each step of college orientation.

Assessment

  1. Monitor and document the progress of high school students related to key performance data metrics.

Program Management and Administration

  1. Develop case-management strategies to increase postsecondary application, FAFSA completion, and postsecondary planning and attainment for partner district high school students.
  2. Refine and expand an individualized postsecondary plan for all high school students that align with coursework and activities that help achieve personal career goals, postsecondary planning, and individual pathway options.
  3. Compile, maintain, and file all reports, records, and other documents.
  4. Comply with policies established by federal and state law, State Board of Education rule, and board policy. Comply with all district and campus routines and regulations.
  5. Work closely with high school counselors to ensure a smooth transition to postsecondary success for high school students and the development of their personal graduation plan (PGP).

  3. Perfom other duties as assigned, including attendin school-sponsored functions, serving on committees and attending community events.
